Food Giveaways
Food giveaways are a mainstay of CAA's vegetarian outreach efforts.
We think that one of the best ways to
get people to consider vegetarian and vegan diets is to show them how
scrumptious animal-free food can really be. Many people think that
going vegan would mean they can no longer have their favorite foods,
but with an enormous variety of foods--ranging from faux meats and
dairy-free products to ethnic cuisine and makeovers of traditional
dishes--a little sampling is all that is needed to dispell such
myths.
Food Showcases
With donations from dozens of national companies and a variety of local businesses we are able to provide thousands of dollars worth of free food to countless community members and University of Minnesota students each fall during our renowned "Veg Pledge Food Showcase". Not only do students get a chance to try veggie jerkies, non-dairy chocolate, soups, sandwiches, vegan ice cream bars, and much more--but they also get a chance to pledge to be vegetarian or vegan for the following "Veg Week" and receive a bountiful care pack stuffed with more food. Most all attendees at our showcases pick up our infomation on factory farming, vegetarian options and nutrition, and of course easy animal-free recipes.
Summer is a time of relaxing and "cooling out" and
for many this means with a cone of ice cream. This also presents a
great chance for CAA to showcase the wide array of dairy-free and
cow-friendly ice creams available. Each year we host at least one
soy ice cream giveaway, generally off one of the Twin Cities'
beloved lakes, attracting hundreds of pedestrians, joggers, and
bicyclists.
Other
When we're not holding exclusive food giveaway events, we make sure to have delicious vegan refreshments available at all of our public events, host regular dine-outs at veg-friendly restaurants, host vegetarian/vegan potlucks, and organize cooking classes. These are additional opportunities for people to delve into the delicious world of vegan cuisine!
