Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about CAA, what we do, and how to get involved!

How old is Compassionate Action for Animals? Who is involved?

Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) has been serving the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul) community since 1998 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. In 2003, CAA opened a chapter at the University of Minnesota—one of the five largest colleges in the U.S.

Today, CAA's efforts span throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area, various Minnesota college campuses, and nationwide. Our volunteers range from high school and college students to working adults and senior citizens.

Where can I sign up for the CAA newsletter?

Do I have to be a vegetarian or vegan to join?

No. CAA is open to anyone who is concerned with animal issues. We promote vegetarianism and veganism as effective ways to reduce suffering, but we recognize that all steps are important. If every American just cut their consumption of animal products in half, billions of animals would be spared each year.

How does one get involved?

There are a variety of ways to get involved, from volunteering occasionally to becoming a supporting member. Just visiting our regular social events is a great way to meet others in the group and get involved.

Why do you focus on farm animals?

Over 95% of the animals killed in the U.S. are farm animals. Each year more than 10 billion land animals are raised and killed for food in this country, Factory farms are by far the leading cause of animal suffering. If 5% of Americans were to stop eating animals, far more suffering would be prevented than if we completely abolished every other form of animal exploitation in the U.S. With this said, we feel that once people are sensitized to the plight of farm animals, they tend to extend that compassion toward other animals too.
