Intern with CAA This Summer!

Improve your résumé and help the animals by enrolling in CAA's Internship Program this summer! Employers look for individuals with a variety of extracurricular experience, and an internship with CAA will give you just that. As an intern, you will improve leadership, writing, and organizing skills, just to name a few. Plan it right, and you can even get academic credit.

Spring Volunteer Appreciation Party

Celebrate springtime and the efforts of CAA volunteers on Monday, April 23, at our spring Volunteer Appreciation Party in the park!

We'll be celebrating with free vegan pizza, games, and raffle prizes. Please come if you have volunteered any time this year or if you're interested in getting involved in the future.

Dine-Out at Evergreen Chinese Restaurant

Join CAA for a dine-out at the Evergreen Chinese Restaurant on Wednesday, April 25. This eatery, a favorite among many in the Twin Cities veg community, offers many primarily Cantonese vegan entrees, like mock chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, and even vegan squid! At this dine-out, we'll be able to order special, off-the-menu options as well. So don't miss this opportunity to take a mid-week break to enjoy delicious food and hang out with CAA volunteers!

Free Advance Screening of Year of the Dog

CAA has received 40 free passes for an advance screening of Year of the Dog - a fictional comedy about a dog lover who becomes a vegan animal-rights activist. The screening will be held Thursday, April 19, at the Edina Cinema (3911 W. 50th St., at 50th and France). Cargill Phasing Out Use of Confining Crates for Sows

Cargill has told an animal rights group it is phasing out the use of the small, metal crates that house pregnant pigs.

Cargill, based in Wayzata, Minn., made the announcement in a recent letter, obtained by the Associated Press, to the Humane Society of the United States. The company was responding to the group's request to follow the lead of Smithfield Foods Inc., the world's largest pork processor, which announced in January it was phasing out the gestation crates.

Paul Shapiro, director of the Humane Society's factory farming campaign, said he was surprised to learn that Cargill had taken steps to use group housing for sows.

"For another agribusiness giant to move away from gestation crate confinement is very significant," he said. "Pigs are extremely intelligent and social animals who suffer immensely when they are confined in individual crates."
