Summer Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in helping the animals and having fun this summer? So are we! The animals in factory farms don't get a vacation over the summer, which is exactly why we must continue to advocate on their behalf.

CAA offers many great volunteer opportunities to help animals and promote vegetarianism, including:

  • Organizing a book club
  • Planning a veg potluck picnic
  • Coordinating our fall vegan food showcase
  • Passing out or stocking educational leaflets
  • Writing for our summer 2007 print newsletter
  • Designing outreach materials

Check out a full listing of our current summer volunteer opportunities.

However you're able to help, you're bound to find something that matches your interests and skills! Even if you only have a few spare hours to help out, let us know by filling out a volunteer form online, e-mailing us at volunteer@ExploreVeg.org, or calling our office at 612-626-5785.

You can make a huge difference in the lives of thousands of animals!

Featured Volunteer Opportunity: Restaurant Outreach

Join us this summer as we work to further improve and expand dining options around the Twin Cities. We will be working closely with restaurants in the area to clearly label their menu items as vegetarian and vegan and provide them with the tools to increase their animal-free cuisine. This will be a very rewarding volunteer opportunity because it will provide all of us with better options and more places to eat. It'll also make things easier for folks interested in transitioning to a more compassionate diet!

If you're interested in helping out with any aspect of this campaign - whether its meeting with a manager or doing research - contact Jolien Munsterhuis at jolien@exploreveg.org.

Meat Sales Slump in the U.K.

Fewer animals killed as Britain continues to go veggie

May 22, 2007

Fewer chickens, turkeys and pigs are being killed for meat in the U.K., and the drop is significant, according to the government's latest agricultural figures. Vegetarian campaigns group Viva! maintains that despite publicity claiming that people are forsaking vegetarianism the opposite is true and that an increasing number of Brits are embracing a kinder, healthier lifestyle.

The annual drop in slaughter shows that 20 million fewer chickens were killed in Britain, and 2 million fewer turkeys. Even taking into account all imports, exports and domestic production, poultry meat consumption in the U.K. fell by 32,000 tons (~35, 274 U.S. tons) . 76,000 fewer pigs were slaughtered, representing the lowest number of animals killed since Defra records began in 1973. Overall pig meat consumption fell by 43,000 tons (~47,399 U.S. tons). According to Mintel (2006), 5 to 6% of the population is now vegetarian and the number is rising. The number of vegans has increased tenfold in the last 10 years, up to a million.
