Meat Market Book Club
Although you may already be familiar with Erik Marcus's "Vegan: A New Ethics of Eating," Marcus changes the direction in his latest and highly anticipated book, "Meat Market: Animal, Ethics, and Money." The book covers the exploitation of farm animals in the various industries and assesses the downfalls and progress of the animal protection movement. Join CAA members for the Meat Market book club, starting next week, where we'll read selected chapters and discuss the issues over some vegan sweet treats. Additionally, Marcus will be speaking for CAA in early November and has agreed to separately meet with the book club to address our thoughts on the work.
Email us at info@ExploreVeg.org if you are interested in participating in the reading group.

- Many of the phones will go to battered women's programs for emergency 911 use.
- The reuse or proper recycling of used cell phones and their accessories helps safeguard our environment.
- By donating your old cell phone(s) you are eligible for a tax deduction.

The Week in Review - October 11 to October 17
Mary Britton Clouse of Chicken Run Rescue entertained and enlightened attendees of last Friday's potluck with a multimedia presentation on the lives of chickens. Meanwhile, positive feedback has continued to roll in about the Veg Pledge. Here are some selections:
"After going to [Peaceable Kingdom] on Monday night, I thought long and hard about my convictions towards life. Since Peaceable Kingdom, I have been vegetarian and have decided to take this road for the rest of my life. I had never seen a video portraying life in such a way as that documentary did. Everyone should see what is going on and question their ideologies. Thank you for helping me do so."
"Emphasizing support of one another was really great, I thought. It shows people how it isn't difficult to eat vegetarian or vegan and still lead a "normal" life."
"I am a vegetarian now...This inspired me to take an active role in my food choices. I also think that I am going to cut out more dairy from my diet."
Recipe: Fried "Chicken"
