Compassionate Action for Animals
Creating respect and justice for animals in our world
Reach thousands of local television viewers with the message of compassion by helping CAA air videos on cable! Getting educational videos played on public access cable is a great way to spread awareness about animal cruelty at no cost and with very little time commitment. Although CAA has been airing VegVideo and Undercover TV in Minneapolis for a couple of years now, we need your help to bring these shows to thousands more in the greater Twin Cities area. If you or someone you know lives in a city or suburb outside of Minneapolis and would like more details, please contact Devin at devin@ExploreVeg.org.
Come celebrate National Ice Cream Day with us! This Sunday, July 16, CAA and the Hamline Animal Rights Coalition will be handing out samples of Soy Delicious ice cream along with information on the dairy industry. We are still looking for enthusiastic volunteers for this fun event, so shoot us an email at info@ExploreVeg.org if you can help out!
Time: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, July 16
Location: Near concession stand at Lake Calhoun, on 3000 Calhoun Pkwy, Minneapolis
Summer is already nearly half over, so enjoy the outdoors while you can and join CAA for our annual camping trip! We will be headed out to Afton State Park over the weekend of August 25 to 27. There will be hiking, swimming, and good times for all. For a minimal cost, meals and lodging expenses will be covered. Carpools from the Twin Cities will be available, and there will be a biking trek for the cyclists to the campsite, so don't fret if you don't have a car! If you are interested and would like more details, contact Alice at alice@ExploreVeg.org.
Lend animals some political support with a quick call to your U.S. Representative! Although most Americans support passing laws for the humane treatment of farm animals, billions of farm animals are raised for food every year in the United States without any federal laws to ensure their humane treatment. In response, Congress members Christopher Shays (R-CT) and Peter DeFazio (D-OR) have introduced H.R. 5557, the Farm Animal Stewardship Purchasing Act, legislation that would require that animal producers who supply meat, dairy, and eggs to various federal programs comply with moderate animal welfare standards.
You can help ensure this legislation becomes a reality by making a quick call or sending a short letter to your U.S. Representative and ask that s/he support H.R. 5557, the Farm Animal Stewardship Purchasing Act. You can conveniently find your U.S. Representative with the HSUS search tool and learn more about the Act on the HSUS website.
It's as easy as calling their office and leaving a message with the assistant such as, "I'm calling to encourage _____ to support the Farm Animal Stewardship Purchasing Act, H.R. 5557." They'll ask for your address and you'll be off the phone in less than a minute. A letter is always effective as well.
