December Book Club: An Unnatural Order by Jim Mason
Join CAA's next book club meeting for a discussion of Jim Mason's classic, An Unnatural Order: Roots of Our Destruction of Nature.
"This is one of a number of recent books that trace both environmental destruction and social oppression to the Western world view that sets humankind outside of, above, and in conflict with nature. What makes this work unique is the emphasis he places on the relationship between human beings and other animals as both explaining and symbolizing our dysfunctional way of life with its built-in patriarchy, misogyny, and racism. "Dominionism" justifies merciless exploitation of the earth and its creatures for human wealth and pleasure, but it has left a deep psychic wound."." (Description from The Library Journal)
We will also be holding a special conference call with Jim Mason during the second half hour of our meeting, so don't miss out on this opportunity. The book is available at many online booksellers. Does not appear in local library listings.
Anyone is welcome to join in the discussion and hang out, even if you have not read the book! If you would like to RSVP for the book club or have any questions, please contact Suzy at suzy@exploreveg.org.

Article: Californians Make History by Banning Veal Crates, Battery Cages, and Gestation Crates
Humane Society of the United States News Release
November 4, 2008
Voters in California approved an historic ballot measure to halt the inhumane confinement of animals on factory farms-by an overwhelming margin.
Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States, said, "California voters have taken a stand for decency and compassion and said that the systemic mistreatment of animals on factory farms cannot continue. All animals deserve humane treatment, including animals raised for food."
