Vegan After Dark, Veg Traveling Guide, Book Review, and More!
Vegan After Dark This Friday
It's that time of the month again. Time for Vegan After Dark, meeting this Friday at Señor Wong in St. Paul. Señor Wong has anything and everything a lounge lizard could want. Try ordering the vegetarian chile relleno (easily made vegan by skipping the cheese) or how about the "Mocko Taco," a deliciously spicy taco made with mock duck served with pico de gallo and lime wedges. There will also be a special signature drink, which their bartender has lovingly created just for our event! Señor Wong keeps the party going with live DJ's spinning the tunes from 10pm to close for a great night on the town! Once there, look for the green "V" table marker or anyone proudly sporting the word "vegan" across their chest.
Please RSVP via meetup.com. Got questions? Please contact our host and coordinator, Chrissy, at chrissy.rishavy@exploreveg.org
About Vegan After Dark: VAD is a social group just for kicks. Grab yourself a drink, chat with some swell veg heads, and have a little fun. We meet every last Friday of the month at a variety of venues ranging from chic cocktail bars and neighborhood dive bars to parties hosted at CAA volunteers' homes.
Time: Friday, May 29 from 8:30 PM-2:00 AM
Location: Señor Wong Restaurant and Bar, 111 Kellogg Blvd. St. Paul

Book Review: Strategic Action for Animals by Melanie Joy
Review by Kedar Deshpande
Views presented here do not necessarily reflect those of CAA
Melanie Joy's Strategic Action for Animals covers a range of issues in the animal rights movement that range from starting an organization to crafting a mission to creating awareness around psychological warning signs in individual and group dynamics.
The book makes an admirable attempt at synthesizing a vast array of topics but ultimately the reader is left with the feeling that the book is taking on too much, with not enough attention devoted to each issue it raises...
Ultimately, Strategic Action for Animals, while written with good intentions, is too vague and short to be an effective introduction for new activists or old. However, it does have some interesting points and sections-which could help groups interested in how to create effective psychological campaigns.
Vegetarian/Vegan Stories Needed
In an effort to provide a resource for parents whose children have decided to be vegan or vegetarian, Action for Animals is collecting stories from parents and youth throughout the world about their experiences dealing with this transition.
The stories can be on any topic surrounding child/parent interactions related to making a transition to vegetarian or veganism. Examples include the child telling the parents he/she wants to be vegan, children and parents cooking vegan meals together, or dealing with a family barbecue, a holiday experience...any touching, funny, entertaining, or informative story that you'd like to share.
If your story mentions a favorite food that you make, please include the recipe. All recipes must be vegan.
Stories can be from the parents or the children (even if you're not a child anymore) and should be written in the first person (I, me, we, etc.). Length can be 100-1,000 words.
Please send your stories (or any questions) to amanda@afa-online.org. Also include your name, age, city/state/country, and the age that you/your child became vegetarian or vegan.
