Compassionate Action For Animals and Vegan Outreach have teamed up to produce an invaluable resource in our brand new LeafletNow.org website that makes a case for leafleting and also gives practical tips, networking opportunities, and information on the state of factory farming.

You might be surprised to learn that the seemingly simple approach of distributing leaflets about factory farming and vegetarianism is one of the most effective forms of animal activism in terms of time spent, use of resources, and results. Rather than feeling pressure or judgment, recipients of leaflets can review the information on their own time and draw their own conclusions. This is what results in true and sustainable change.

The goal of LeafletNow.org is to empower you with an effective advocacy strategy. We can all play a vital role in creating a kinder world with less suffering in it. There's never been a better time to do so than now.

Article: The New Veganism

By Kristin Ohlson, as posted in Experience Life Magazine
May 2009

No longer on the fringe of culinary culture, plant-centered diets are more popular than ever. Here's why--and why you don't have to be a vegan to benefit from putting more plants at the center of your plate.

I used to groan whenever I discovered that friends I'd invited to a dinner party were vegetarian or, worse, vegan. How could I make a main dish with only meatless ingredients? Wasn't "main dish" just a synonym for meat?

No need to worry anymore. Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero's best-selling vegan cookbook, Veganomicon (Da Capo Press, 2007), has me salivating over their Eggplant-Potato Moussaka with Pine Nut Cream, Asparagus and Lemongrass Risotto, and dozens of other amazing recipes. I could easily assemble a plant-based feast that would please all my friends - even my meat-loving husband - and give them a taste of one of today's hottest culinary trends...

Recent research by the Natural Marketing Institute suggests that while only about 2 percent of the general population currently self-identifies as vegan or vegetarian, 6 percent identify as quasi-vegetarian (meaning they consider themselves vegetarians but still occasionally eat meat, fish or poultry), and fully 30 percent are trying to reduce their meat intake. Not surprisingly, in health-oriented circles, these numbers are significantly higher. And given the interest in veganism that the current generation of young adults, especially, has demonstrated, many trend-watchers are predicting a "vegan tidal wave" over the next several years...

Gil's Going Away Party and Potluck This Friday

Come celebrate Gil Schwartz's contributions to Compassionate Action for Animals as Director of Volunteer Programs!

Please join us for a potluck and party this Friday at the home of Unny Nambudiripad, CAA's Development Coordinator. Please bring a vegan dish to share.

Gil has accomplished a lot in the nine years he has volunteered and worked for CAA; he has played an integral part in planning and executing Veg Week, our No Battery Eggs campaign, and the Their Lives, Our Voices (TLOV) conference. He has brought a sense of fun, a talent for engaging with volunteers, and a strong work ethic that will be missed by all of us at Compassionate Action for Animals. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Our new Director of Volunteer Programs, Ben Kutschied, will be at the party. Come meet him and join us in toasting Gil for his hard work for the animals!

Time: This Friday, July 17 from 7:00pm until Midnight
Location: Unny Nambudiripad's house, 342 44th Street East, Minneapolis, MN 55409
