Veg Week is Under Way
Whether you're already vegetarian, want to be, or are just curious about vegetarianism, veganism, and animal advocacy, Veg Week has something to offer you! Join veg lovers and Compassionate Action for Animals for our sixth annual week-long celebration of all that's veg: Veg Week 2009!
Did you know that as many as thirty percent of diners of all ages "want vegetarian meals"? And that twenty percent of college students identify as vegetarian?
Join veg lovers from Tuesday, September 29th to Monday, Oct. 5th, for Veg Week - our annual celebration of all that's veg! The festivities include a presentation by Jonathan Balcombe, a cooking class, a potluck in the park, dine-outs, film showings, a tour of a Minneapolis chicken sanctuary and more!
The week is in full swing, and we have a bunch of great events still to come, including dineouts, potlucks, film showings, a cooking class, and more.

Medical School to End Student Animal Labs

Earlier this week, the University of Minnesota Medical School (UMMS) informed us that it will eliminate the last of its medical student animal labs by year's end. The head of the school's department of emergency medicine said that UMMS has "markedly curtailed the use of live animals for medical student education in Emergency Medicine" and "will have completely phased out their use by December 31, 2009." He went on to say that "[o]ur students are being taught using simulation models including some of those you cited in your communication."...
