Minnesota College Leafleting Week

Come be one of the dozens of volunteers leafleting at colleges all over the Twin Cities and Minnesota! It will be CAA's biggest leafleting event this season, and many volunteers are even taking the day off of school or work to volunteer.

College leafleting involves standing outside of common areas and handing out brochures to students passing by. Leafleting is a great way to help animals. In just an hour, it is possible to distribute over a hundred 'Compassionate Choices' pamphlets on a college campus, getting the message of compassion out to hundreds of open-minded college students!

Minnesota College Leafleting Week is an opportunity for you to join dozens of other local volunteers in the biggest leafleting week of the year! We will have several volunteers at each college (see list below). If you are interested in helping all day, we need on-site-coordinators at each college to manage leaflets. If you would like to help leaflet for a portion of the day, we can arrange transportation (if needed) to and from a local college.

If you can help with this event, please email Sam at sam.zuehlke@exploreveg.org with your name, time(s) that you can help, and if you need transportation. Let us know if there is a specific college you would like to leaflet at.

We will be leafleting at the following schools in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area:

  • University of Minnesota - Twin Cities Campuses
  • Saint Thomas University, St. Paul
  • Normandale Community College, Bloomington
  • Augsburg College, Minneapolis (near West Bank U of M)

Iowa Passes Ag-Gag Bill

Last week, the state of Iowa passed a bill aimed at restricting undercover investigations that bring to light the realities of factory farming

Iowa is the first in the country to pass an 'ag-gag' bill. This bill penalizes workers who work on farms under false pretenses. This bill will make it more difficult for animal protection organizations to let the public know about how animals are raised for food.

Undercover investigations have been crucial in bringing to light the horrific conditions that pigs, cows, chickens, and other farm animals are subjected to. For more details about why the legislation is a bad idea, please read the Star Tribune opinions piece by Compassionate Action for Animals volunteer Jeff Johnson.

Please watch Mercy for Animals' new video that shows what the industry is attempting to hide. Please also consider choosing plant-based foods.

Annual Banquet

Please join us for our 8th Annual Banquet!

Join Compassionate Action for Animals at our Annual Banquet, celebrating fourteen years of advocating for animals. Please buy your tickets today! We are also looking for volunteers.

Focusing on action, education, and outreach to inspire respect for animals, CAA touches hundreds of human lives and saves thousands of animal lives. Through the dedicated efforts of CAA volunteers, thousands of leaflets are distributed to increase awareness of the plight of factory farm animals, hundreds of individuals pledge to try vegetarianism, social gatherings are held to bring like-minded people together, and inspirational speakers from across the country educate the public about those who cannot speak for themselves.

The event begins with a reception featuring a selection of delicious hors d'ouevres and complimentary wine. During the reception, bid at our silent auction featuring artwork, gift baskets, services from local vendors, and more.

The reception is followed by a gourmet vegan dinner. During dinner, CAA will give a short presentation on our work in 2011 and our plans for 2012.

This year's banquet will again take place at Cedars Hall in northeast Minneapolis. The hall is attached to Saint Maron Church, and there is free parking to the north and west of the church. The west side parking lot is closest to the venue entrance.

  • Time: Apr 05, 2012 from 05:30 PM to 09:00 PM
  • Location: Cedars Hall, Saint Maron Church, 602 University Ave NE, Minneapolis
