Event Vegan and Vegetarian Potluck (Coffman, Room 325, from Apr 06, 2003 12:30 PM to Apr 06, 2003 02:00 PM)
All are welcome at Compassionate Action for Animals, University of Minnesota Chapter's Vegan and Vegetarian Potluck on Sunday, April 6th, at 12:30 PM in room 325 of Coffman Memorial Union on the East bank campus of the University of Minnesota. Please bring your own plate, cup and utensils. Dishes or donations are welcome but not required. If you plan to bring a vegetarian (no meat) or vegan (no meat, dairy, eggs, honey, etc.) dish to pass out please include a card with the ingredients to set next to it. See you there!
Event Teach-in on hunting and fur (Vincent Hall, Room 1, from Apr 09, 2003 07:30 PM to Apr 09, 2003 09:00 PM)
On Wed., April 9th, the University of Minnesota Chapter of Compassionate Action for Animals will be proudly hosting a teach-in on the issues surrounding hunting and fur production. This teach-in will be facilitated by long time local activist and educator, Freeman Wicklund. The teach-in will begin at 7:30 PM in room 1 of Vincent Hall and will run to approximately 9:00 PM. Please join us for what should be an interesting conversation!
Event Vegan Day (West Bank Plaza, from May 06, 2003 11:00 AM to May 06, 2003 02:00 PM)
CAA Vegan Day: Tuesday, May 6, starting at 11am on the West Bank Plaza, on the West end of the Washington bridge. We will be distributing a lot of free vegan food such as ice cream, chocolate, organic trail mixes, and tofu jerky as well as information on being vegan.
Event Animal Suffering, Factory Farming and Veganism - F (oom 303 of Appleby Hall, from Oct 09, 2003 04:00 PM to Oct 09, 2003 06:00 PM)
On Thursday, October 9, the local activist and educator Freeman Wicklund will be coming to campus to speak on Animal Suffering, Factory Farming and Veganism. Freeman will speak of first hand experience that he had while visiting battery-cage egg facilities and other factory farms in Minnesota. If you want to hear what factory farms are like from someone who has been to them, then this is the talk for you!

Event Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzees (Blegen 220, from Oct 15, 2003 07:00 PM to Oct 15, 2003 09:00 PM)
Dr. Jane Goodall's legendary work with the chimpanzees of Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park is the subject of a remarkable film that we will be showing Wednesday, October 15, at 7pm in Blegen 220. Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzees takes viewers on an extraordinary trip deep into Gombe and across four decades of research to experience the world of the chimpanzee as you've never seen it before. Free snacks will be provided, and the film will be followed by an optional discussion.

Ever wondered what vegetarian/vegan food is like? Are you vegetarian/vegan and want to meet new people and eat great food? Just hungry and want to try new food for free? All are welcome! Event Soy Delicious and Tropical Source giveaway! (In front of Coffman, from May 27, 2003 10:00 AM to May 27, 2003 02:00 PM)
This Tuesday, between 10 AM and 2 PM, members of the University of Minnesota chapter of Compassionate Action for Animals will be handing out free samples of Soy Delicious and Tropical Source Chocolate in front of Coffman Memorial Union. We will also be distributing literature and answering questions about vegetarianism and veganism. Come visit us for some free food and information!
Event Soy Delicious Giveaway (Ben & Jerry's in Stadium Village, from Jul 21, 2003 11:30 AM to Jul 21, 2003 02:00 PM)
At noon on Sunday, July 20, the University of Minnesota chapter of Compassionate Action for Animals will be giving away free Soy Delicious ice cream in front of the Ben and Jerry's located at Washington and Walnut (702 Washington Avenue S.E.). We are doing this in conjunction with Viva!, an international vegetarian group, in hopes of encouraging Ben and Jerry's to carry non-dairy ice cream and introducing more people to vegan foods. Feel free to come with your friends and family for a non-dairy ice cream treat! We would also be pleased to have your help distributing these free samples. Event Neal Barnard Lecture (Room 2-620 of Moos Tower, from Aug 16, 2003 07:00 PM to Aug 16, 2003 09:00 PM)
Update: This event was a huge success. It attracted more than 78 people, which is an astounding number for a summer event! Neal Barnard, the president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, will be doing a lecture on his book Breaking the Food Seduction.
Event Take Action Tour at the Quest (The Quest, from Sep 11, 2003 04:30 PM to Sep 11, 2003 07:00 PM)
Here is another great opportunity to help the animals and having lots of fun doing it! We have been invited to table at the Take Action Tour, which will be coming to the Quest on Thursday, September 11. If you want to help out, we'll get you in at the door for free, but we need you to let us know as soon as possible!
Event Soy Delicious giveaway at the Wedge (The Wedge in Uptown, from Aug 21, 2003 11:30 AM to Aug 21, 2003 02:00 PM)
On Thursday, September 21, we will be giving away free samples of Soy Delicious, along with coupons and literature on the conditions of dairy cows, at the Wedge Co-op in Minneapolis. We hope that events such as these will help show people how being vegan does not mean that they have to give up their favorite foods.

Whatever your reason, we would love your help painting our four panels on the Washington Avenue Bridge during the second week of classes! Event Concert at the Quest (The Quest, from Aug 31, 2003 05:00 PM to Aug 31, 2003 07:00 PM)
We are always trying to reach out to more people, and to do that, we try to go everywhere students go, which is why we jumped on an invitation that we received to be handing out literature about factory farming and vegetarianism at the Reggie and The Full Effect concert that also features Midtown Rock and My Chemical Romance. Update: We raised $270 for the group! See pictures here. We need money to fund our outreach campaigns, and what better way to do it than by selling a bunch of cool stuff? We'll have used microwaves, a coffee maker, a stereo stand, a futon frame, dishes, pots and pans, vases, lots and lots of women's clothes, books, toys, radios, and lots of cute objects! We will be selling these things and much more at the corner of 26th and Emerson in Uptown; feel free to stop by!

Everyone is welcome, whether you're a "level 5" vegan or a diehard meat-eater!

On Sunday, September 14, we will have the pleasure of welcoming noted vegetarian and vegan nutritionist, Brenda Davis, and the successful environmentalist, Anthony Marr, to campus as part of their CARE tour. Be sure to come back and visit our site to get the exact times and locations where you can hear these two speak! This is not an event to miss!

"We The Planet", a series of festivals, college presentations, and community events of consciousness, activism, and music, is coming to St. Paul, and we have been invited to help out! What better place, than a tour designed to raise social consciousness, to increase awareness of the immense suffering that we cause animals every day? At the tour, one of the best known environmentalist, Julia Butterfly Hill, and popular vegetarian advocate, Howard Lyman, will be speaking. Tracy Chapman, renowned musician and social justice advocate, will also be there to speak and perform an acoustic set. Come join us; it's free!

To kickoff Vegetarian Awareness Month, we are giving away vegan food on the West Bank Plaza. We will have chips, cookies, tofu jerky, soy 'ice cream', and all sorts of other vegan goodies. At a similar event last year, we drew between 500 and 600 people, which makes this a great event for demonstrating how delicious vegan food can be!

Want a cruelty-free Thanksgiving dinner with other compassionate people? Mark your calendars and head on over to our first annual Turkey-Free Thanksgiving meal and get all the fixings with none of the cruelty! The event is open to all, so please bring friends and family and of course a vegetarian or vegan dish to share! For those who need to warm up their dish, we will have Coffman's Student Organization Kitchen available beforehand for this purpose. There will also be a great opportunity to save a turkey through an Adopt-A-Turkey program that will be made available at the event!

What better way to "protest injustice to the disempowered" than by showing people the horrors and immense suffering caused by factory farming? And this is exactly what we will be doing at the upcoming Anti-Flag concert on November 20. Along with Anti-Flag, Rise Against, Against Me!, None More Black, and Thought Riot will all be playing. Come help to show people that they have a choice!

Stop by the Uptown Transit Station on Saturday, December 13, between 1 pm and 4 pm to taste these and get information on other decadent vegan food! If you have friends that doubt vegan food can taste good, send them our way, and the taste will be enough to convince them that you have a compassionate diet while still enjoying the finer things in life!
