Leaflet at The Big Pink Concert!

Come pass out leaflets on animal cruelty, factory farming, and vegetarianism at the Big Pink concert! Leafleting is a fun, easy, and effective way to help the animals when you don't have a lot of time to volunteer!

Concert leafleting involves handing out brochures to attendees as a concert lets out. If you only have a little time to volunteer, this is a great way to help animals. In just a half an hour of attendees exiting the venue, it is possible to distribute several hundred "Even If You Like Meat..." pamphlets, getting the message of compassion out to countless, receptive individuals! Leafleting is a fun, effective, and easy form of outreach! Please send us an e-mail, info@exploreveg.org or give us a call if you are interested in helping with this effort or if you have more questions!

Note: We may not be leafleting the exact listed time (10-11pm), but have put that as a tentative timeframe until we get more information on the end time for the concert. Leafleting is always done in pairs or more, so if you have never leafleted before, an experienced leafleter will accompany you. Please let us know if you have transportation to First Avenue or if you would like a ride.

Easy Vegan Cooking Class

Are you interested in cooking more vegan meals, but not sure where to begin?

You don't have to be an accomplished chef to prepare delicious and affordable vegan food. Join us at the Van Cleve Community Center for our March cooking class and learn tips for simple, quick and wholesome vegan meals that will wow your taste buds. Our guest chef, Cali Mastny, will show you how easy vegan cooking can be.

While similar classes could cost $50 or more, ours are completely free! With a deal like this, there is nothing stopping you from preparing and enjoying more vegan meals at home.

There is a limited amount of space available, so be sure to make a reservation!

Vegan After Dark at the Liffey!

Looking to celebrate your Irish heritage in a fun, vegan, St. Paul-situated way?

Then come on over for a special Vegan After Dark at The Liffey, an oh-so-wonderful Irishman's dream bar!

The Liffey offers a home-made veggie burger which can be made vegan. Round it off with some hearty beers and you're in for a night of St. Patrick's Day happiness and animal-friendly goodness.

Special note: The Liffey offers free parking in the ramp behind the Holiday Inn. You pay upfront, but the cost of parking is deducted from your food and drink bill inside the pub.

About Vegan After Dark: Vegan After Dark is a social gathering just for kicks. On the last Friday or Saturday of every month, veg-friendly folks meet at various locations in the twin cities for cocktails, small bites, and adventures in socializing. You don't have to be vegan to hang... you only have to be up for a good time!

Vegan Chili Cook-off

Warm up at the 1st Annual Vegan Chili Cook-off!

Hosted by CAA, Fast and Furless and Do It Green! Minnesota, it's guaranteed to spice up a chilly Minnesota night. Attendees will sample and judge a delicious variety of vegan chili recipes prepared by twelve local amateur cooks at this FREE event.

First prize is a $100 Fast and Furless Vegan Emporium gift certificate! Prizes will be awarded to the top three chili recipes as determined by popular vote.

Vegan beer, cornbread and non-alcoholic beverages will be available. Do It Green! Minnesota's Eco Wiggle (a fun new version of Twister) will also be on hand for those who would like to play.

Contestants must bring 10 cups of prepared vegan (no animal products) chili and keep it hot for two hours.

To Compete: Please note that we can only accept 12 entries. Details will be sent to cooks prior to the event. To enter ($15 for students; $25 for non-students; non-refundable) contact Suzy at 651-402-5688.

Book Club Meeting: "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer

Join CAA's Compassionate Living Book Club as we read this immensely popular book that is changing the way people think about food.

explores the many stories we use to justify our eating habits—folklore and pop culture, family traditions and national myth, apparent facts and inherent fictions—and how such tales can lull us into a brutal forgetting.

About the Book Club:

You can join the Compassionate Living Book Club on Meetup.com.

We will meet twice a month, every other Sunday to discuss our current selection. Books will be read a few chapters at a time to allow for more meaningful and in depth discussion. At our meeting on the 28th, we will be discussing information from the beginning of the book through the end of the second chapter.

Monthly Community Meeting

If you want to get involved in a project or if you have an idea for one, join us for our next meeting.

CAA holds monthly community meetings to discuss current and proposed projects and events. This month we will be discussing our 3rd Annual Their Lives Our Voices animal advocacy conference, Veg Month 2010, and whatever you decide to bring to the table.

Our monthly meetings are held at our community office space on 2100 1st Ave S. Mpls. The free parking lot and our entrance are in the back of the building. See you there!

About Colleen Patrick-Goudreau

Having earned a master’s degree in English Literature, Colleen uses her writing and communication skills to empower people to make informed food choices and to inspire them to live as compassionately and healthfully as possible. A sought-after and inspiring public speaker on the spiritual, social, and practical aspects of a vegan lifestyle, Colleen is the author of two cookbooks (The Joy of Vegan Baking and The Vegan Table; her third, Color Me Vegan, is due out in fall 2010), is the host of the popular and award-winning podcast Vegetarian Food for Thought, has appeared on the Food Network, is a columnist for VegNews Magazine, and is a contributor to National Public Radio.

About the Presentation

This free event is open to the public. It will be followed by a free, catered reception and a chance to interact one-on-one with Colleen Patrick-Goudreau! Everyone is welcome!

Colleen will be selling signed copies of her books, so be sure to bring your checkbook!

There are no tickets for this event. It is recommended that you arrive early to ensure good seating.
