Director of Volunteer Programs

Compassionate Action for Animals is a nationally-recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Minneapolis, MN. Our focus is on eliminating cruelty to farmed animals through vegetarian outreach, education, and community building.
CAA volunteers lead all our campaign efforts and daily operations. The volunteer leadership holds primary decision-making authority over the direction of the organization. The Director of Volunteer Programs is responsible for engaging and empowering volunteers to make a difference for animals.

The primary duties of this position are to:
- Recruit volunteers and orient them to CAA's mission and core values.
- Train volunteers to lead and assist with CAA's programs.
- Work with volunteers to develop strategies, campaigns and programs.
- Ensure that the organization's activities are being carried out primarily by volunteers.
- Directly assist with the execution of programs and events as needed.
- Work closely with and supervise volunteers. Conduct regular check-ins and evaluations.
- Ensure that volunteers receive recognition for their contributions.
- Stay up to date on best practices in the fields of volunteer management and animal advocacy.
- Assist with fundraising, strategic planning, board development, and general administration as needed.
The ideal candidate will have experience organizing events and managing groups of volunteers. You will need to be highly self-motivated and self-sufficient.
This position requires a lot of computer work, so you should be comfortable spending a significant portion of your time using a computer. You should also be comfortable following up with volunteers on a regular basis through phone calls, text messaging, email, and other forms of online communication.
CAA works on outreach, education, and community-building in order to promote respect for animals and vegetarianism. We focus on exposing the horrors of factory farming in order to promote change toward plant-based eating. You should be passionate about this work, and excited to help us improve our efforts. This is a full-time position located in Minneapolis, MN. Hours will be flexible, and you can work from home part-time, as long as you have a viable Internet connection.

Compensation
This position pays $22,000 per year. We are committed to increasing this position's salary as funding allows, until the position reaches market rate.
We do not offer group health insurance at this time. However, because of various Minnesota programs, it always possible to obtain private health insurance, regardless of pre-existing conditions.
We offer a training budget of $500 per year. This can be spent on books, conferences, classes, or other training opportunities.
Our vacation and sick time policy is very flexible. All staff are encouraged to take time off for illness as needed. Staff are also encouraged to take regular vacation time, with a minimum of two weeks off per year.
