Now Hiring: Summer Food Giveaway Coordinator

Job Description:
Compassionate Action for Animals (CAA) is offering a paid seasonal position for a full-time Summer Food Giveaway Coordinator. Candidates must be organized, outgoing, have some general knowledge of vegan food products, and have excellent communication skills. Experience in outreach, event planning and logistics, volunteer coordination, and food preparation are desired. Candidates should be passionate about animal advocacy and veganism.
One part of our long-term strategy at CAA is to help build a bigger and stronger animal advocacy movement. With each new person that embraces the values of veganism, thousands of animals are saved over the course of that person's lifetime, and even more through the aditional people tha tperson influences. As the movement grows, the numbers of animals we can help will increase exponentially.
At CAA we realize that tasting is believing and when people get a chance to try vegan foods, they'll seek out more in the future.
The role of the Food Giveaway Coordinator is to work with volunteers to distribute several hundred dollars worth of vegan food samples during each of six to ten food giveaway events held throughout the months of June, July and August.
Applicant must:
- Be available on weekdays, weekends, and evenings to participate in food giveaways.
- Oversee volunteers at each food giveaway.
- Help to recruit and retain volunteers for giveaway events.
- Research and schedule locations for the food giveaway events.
- Procure, through donations and purchases, food samples for distribution.
- Purchase permits for events as needed.
- Transport some goods and equipment for each giveaway.
- Promote events by overseeing the production of posters, flyers, and other advertisements.
- Call and write press releases to major news outlets such as MPR, Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, City Pages, MN Daily, Minn Post, etc.
- Report food giveaway results and projections.
As the position will require travel to different sites throughout the Twin Cities metro area, the applicant must have reliable and readily-accessible personal transportation, and must also have a good driving record and current driver's liscense.
Duration and Compensation:
This is a seasonal position beginning part-time in early May for initial orientation and preparation, becoming full-time on June 1st. The position ends August 31st. The salary for this position is $5,000 for 550 hours of work.
Location:
The Food Giveaway Coordinator may work from home when possible, but will also be required on occasion to operate from either of our two offices located at the University of Minnesota and 2100 First Ave S. in Minneapolis. Food giveaway events will be scheduled at locations near the University of Minnesota, at popular parks and lakes, at community events, and other locations.
Candidates should be local residents or willing to move to the Twin Cities if hired
