Event Descriptions:

Veg 101 Workshop - Before Veg Week officially starts, learn the basics for going vegetarian or vegan with Rebecca Ford and Ben Acaso! This dynamic duo will share anecdotes from personal experience as well as go over everything from preparing quick, cheap, and tasty meals to balancing a veg diet for optimum nutrition. Bring a few friends, try some samples, and get free recipes and other resources at this informative workshop!

Veg Week 2006 Kick-Off Event:

"Animal Passions & Beastly Virtues: Happy Hounds, Pissy Baboons, and Playful Pigs" with Dr. Marc Bekoff* – In this lively presentation world-renowned animal behaviorist and author Dr. Marc Bekoff will combine his essays and innovative research with what is known to scientists about the emotional world of animals. He is sure to amuse attendees with his unique observations of play and friendships among animals ranging from dogs and cats to dolphins and pigs, ultimately challenging the idea that science and the ethical treatment of animals are incompatible.

Photo-Bekoff.jpgBekoff is esteemed for his work in cognitive ethology (the study of animal minds), behavioral ecology, and animal behavior. He has published 18 books and has been featured on 48 Hours, Animal Planet, and the Discovery Channel, as well as in Time, and National Geographic. Bekoff is a professor of biology at the University of Colorado and a co-founder with Jane Goodall of Ethologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

This is a free event, open to the public. It will be followed by an all-vegan catered reception and a chance to interact one-on-one with Bekoff. Veg pledgers, academics, animal lovers, and anyone looking for a relaxing, fun filled evening is invited to the event.
