Cooking Classes Co-Coordinator

Position Description and Objectives

Cooking is a stumbling block for many people when it comes to adopting a vegan diet. Compassionate Action for Animals' (CAA) hosts free or inexpensive monthly cooking classes to demonstrate that preparing vegan foods is just as easy, affordable and delicious as preparing foods with animal products. The Cooking Classes Co-Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and advertising classes, securing venues and instructors, and organizing volunteers to make these classes a success.

Objectives and Criteria for Success: Your coordination of our cooking classes will...

  • Provide participants with some basic knowledge needed to prepare vegan food at home.
  • Demonstrate that cooking vegan food is easy, affordable, and delicious.
  • Empower participants to include more vegan foods in their diet.

Responsibilities

  • Scouting affordable and functional venues where classes can be held.
  • Scouting instructors who are sympathetic to CAA's mission, able to cook delicious vegan food, and skilled at giving instruction.
  • Scheduling dates, times, and locations for classes.
  • Filling out any necessary permits.
  • With the assistance of your supervisor, recruiting and organizing volunteers to assist with the classes and any other necessary responsibilities.
  • Gathering supplies for each class.
  • Ensuring that classes have been sufficiently advertised.
  • Managing volunteers and delegating responsibilities and tasks

Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with common kitchen sanitation and cleanliness.
  • A strong desire to educate the public about vegan cooking.
  • Prior experience planning events is preferred.

Time Commitment and Evaluation

  • This position lasts six months and may be renewed.
  • This position is for 3-5 hours/week. Two of these hours must be spent working from one of our offices (this may be negotiable). Additional time is at your discretion.
  • You performance review will occur three months from your starting date.
  • Your supervisor will be Executive Director, Unny Nambudiripad.
