Journalist Intern
Position Description
As the CAA Journalist Intern, your job will be to document CAA's work. You will attend CAA activities and events and write summaries for our Weekly Update email and Compassionate Times, our donor newsletter. You are also encouraged to work with other writers and photographers in the organization whenever possible.

- Educate the public about CAA's, how that work furthers our mission, and how it helps animals.
- Ensure that all CAA writing is of the highest quality possible.
- Keep readers informed about CAA's events and activism.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Communicating with the other writers (journalists and/or writer's group coordinators) to divide responsibilities and ensure that all duties are being fulfilled.
- Attending and reporting on at least 4 CAA events a month.
- Photographing events or working with other volunteers to ensure that events are photographed.
- Prior knowledge of or an eagerness to learn about CAA's history, mission and core values, strategies, approach and style of communications.
- Recruiting volunteers to help with CAA writing projects.
- Working with staff and volunteers to ensure your articles fit with CAA's mission and values, editing where necessary.
- Delegating responsibilities to other journalist volunteers when necessary.
Qualifications Desired
- Strong written communication skills and prior writing experience. Experience as a journalist is strongly preferred.
- The ability to work effectively with other volunteers, especially other writers and photographers.
- Well-organized, detail oriented, creative and resourceful, with strong problem solving skills.
Time Commitment and Evaluation
- This position will take approximately 20 hours/month
- We expect that time will be divided between office hours, work at home, and time in the field at events and activities.
- You performance review will occur three months from your starting date.
- Your supervisor will be Executive Director, Unny Nambudiripad.
