Writers' Group Co-Coordinator
Position Description
The Writer's Group develops persuasive and evaluative commentary with the hope of reaching out to the public and other organizations on issues relevant to our mission. In order to keep animal protection issues alive in people's minds, volunteers in the CAA Writers' Group write letters to the editor, op-eds, and articles for local and national publications. The Writers' Group Coordinator will organize and direct CAA writing efforts by scouting writing opportunities, contributing to writing projects, and recruiting and managing writing volunteers.

- Raise awareness of the cruelties of factory farming and challenge the misrepresentation and ignorance that often appear in the media.
- Ensure that all CAA writing is of the highest quality possible.
- Keep writers actively involved in CAA's activism.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Communicating with the other Writers' Group Co-Coordinator to divide responsibilities and ensure that all duties are being fulfilled.
- Finding writing opportunities in the community and with local and national press and publications.
- Keeping abreast of CAA activities and identifying and assisting with any writing-related needs.
- Finding creative ways to keep writers active and involved in the organization.
- Prior knowledge of or an eagerness to learn about CAA's history, mission and core values, strategies, approach and style of communications.
- Recruiting and training volunteers to help with CAA writing projects.
- Delegating responsibilities to Writers' Group volunteers when necessary.
Qualifications Desired
- Strong written communication skills and experience with writing letters, grants, or creatively.
- The ability to manage a large group of volunteers and delegate tasks efficiently and effectively.
- Well-organized, detail oriented, creative and resourceful, with strong problem solving skills.
Time Commitment and Evaluation
- This position lasts six months and may be renewed.
- This position is for 3-5 hours/week. Two of these hours must be spent working from one of our offices (this may be negotiable). Additional time is at your discretion.
- You performance review will occur three months from your starting date.
- Your supervisor will be Executive Director, Unny Nambudiripad.
