Campaign Victory: Pizza Lucé Restaurants Switch to Cage-Free Eggs
After working with Compassionate Action for Animals this past summer, Pizza Lucé has officially made a switch to using exclusively cage-free eggs, the majority of which are used in their brunch meals!
The change is currently effective at all five of its restaurants in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Duluth, making the restaurant the first pizza chain in Minnesota to implement such a policy.
CAA is delighted that Pizza Lucé has taken the important step of withdrawing support for one of factory farming's worst cruelties—highly restrictive caging of hens. This move, from one of the most popular pizzerias in Minnesota, is setting a positive example for other local companies. Additionally, Pizza Lucé continues to offer a wide array of delicious egg-free vegan options, including tofu scrambles, pizzas with mock meats and two types of non-dairy cheeses, and vegan desserts.
U.S. factory farms confine approximately 280 million hens in barren battery cages that are so small, the birds can’t even spread their wings. Each bird has less space than a single sheet of paper on which to live, whereas cage-free hens have approximately 2.5 to 3 times more space. While cage-free hens do not live cruelty-free lives and may not be able to go outside, they are able to walk, spread their wings, stand on solid ground, and lay their eggs in nests—all instinctive behaviors permanently denied to hens confined in battery cages.
