Volunteer of the Month: Katie Lindberg

As a sophomore at Normandale Community College, Katie Lindberg filled out a volunteer application this past January in order to fulfill a class requirement to work with a community organization.

Katie had long been interested in animal issues, even as a child, and she’d become familiar with CAA through a coworker who was a CAA volunteer.

With experience as a reporter for a community newspaper, Katie brought her journalistic skills to CAA, spearheading the Spring 2007 Highlights print newsletter that was sent to group members. She coordinated with several contributing volunteer writers, a designer, and proofreader to produce a stellar publication (read a pdf version of the newsletter here). Her work on this project went above and beyond what was required for the class she was taking, and despite dropping the class midway through the semester she ramped up her involvement with CAA.

Most recently Katie was an on-site coordinator for MN College Leafleting Day, working with three other volunteers to distribute leaflets to students at Normandale.

Reflecting on her involvement with CAA, Katie says, “I'd been looking for an animal rights group in the area forever and was glad to find CAA. I think the issues are important and the focus on animal cruelty goes over well with people in today's world, where everything is highly politicized and so many issues are complex.” She went on to say, “The people are easy to work with and they host fun events.”
