7:00pm - 9:30pm

Location
Sibley Park Recreation Center

Join us for a community discussion about Intersections on Thursday, August 20.

Join us for another round of Tea, Cookies, and Conversation. These gatherings are an opportunity to have fun, informative, and focused discussions about topics that are important to vegans, vegetarians, and others who are involved in the animal protection movement.

With #BlackLivesMatter and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) rights coming more to the forefront of mainstream consciousness, we think it’s a good time to talk about intersections among social justice movements.

  • What connections can we make between the animal protection movement and other social justice movements?
  • How can we uphold values of humility, respect, non-violence as we advocate for change?
  • How do we speak about other social justice movements in ways that are respectful and not appropriative?
  • How can we as animal advocates make connections with other social justice movements that will be mutually beneficial for all movements?
  • What do all those fancy words mean? (Privilege, Intersections, Social Justice…)

Do you have other questions related to this subject that you’d like to discuss? Bring them with you!

Joining us will be a few members of the community who specialize in this work, including:

  • Abeer Syedah, Student Body VP of the University of Minnesota
  • Jose Luis Villasenor, Executive Director of Tamales y Bicicletas
  • Emmanuel Ortiz, Community Organizer and Writer

We welcome everyone, no matter what your level of experience or fluency with the subject of social justice. Everyone is invited to be a part of the conversation and take this opportunity to learn and grow as individuals and as a community.

This conversation will be moderated by Justin Leaf, Communications and Events Coordinator for CAA. If you’d like to attend RSVP on the Facebook event page or email Justin at justin@exploreveg.org. Herbal tea and vegan cookies will be provided. If you’d like to bake a batch of vegan cookies for the event, let us know.
